Overview

This project was a custom, fan-made "athlete cereal" box created for Jackson Wong's. The goal was to design playful, collectible packaging that reimagined the artist as a source of energy and positivity, presented as a surprise gift for Chuang Mini Tour at Pavilion Damansara Heights on 7 Dec 2025.

Objectives

This project showcases a comprehensive design process, from initial concept to final production, including:

Inspiration: The concept was sparked by Mister Potato's giant boxes, reimagined as a personal, fan-art cereal box.
Cereal box size: 25cm x 35cm x 6cm
Design Approach: I followed the existing cereal box layout, nutritional label format, and structural design of existing cereal boxes (studying products like Milo and Kellogs at local stores) to ensure professional authenticity.
Creative Twist: All content was customized into "Jackson Facts", converting his height, talents, and charisma into a humorous "nutritional label" celebrating his attributes.
Material Pivot: Initially planned as a rigid, sculptable box, the design was adapted to high-quality wrapping paper due to time constraints.
Visual Identity: I shifted the colour scheme to pink, a playful nod to the athlete's known preference, to add an element of surprise and personal humour.
Tools: Designed using Adobe Illustrator and Canva for layout, typography, and final asset preparation.

What I Learned

Material Knowledge: Gained practical understanding of paper type, weights, and suitability for packaging versus wrapping applications.

Pre-Production Planning: Recognized the importance of keeping basic tools (physical ruler, tape) on hand to streamline prototyping.
Time & Scope Management: Learned to balance urgency with research, allocating time for ideation, design iteration, and physical assembly without last-minute compromises.
This project blended product design, graphic adaptation, and fan engagement into a tangible creative tribute, highlighting my ability to translate inspiration into a finished, context-aware design piece.

Note: Jackson Wong, whose full name is Jackson Wong Kah Heng (also known as Huang Jia Heng), is a Malaysian National Wushu athlete. Please note: not to be confused with Jackson Wang, the singer from GOT7. With approximately 13 years of Wushu experience, the 22-year-old (as of 2025) is a former contestant on Chuang Asia Season 2 and is currently transitioning from athlete to entertainer, model and actor.
